Apple Roses

Apple Roses

To make these Apple Roses, this was the original recipe I followed.
I've tweaked it since and you can do the same according to your own liking.

As usual, gather all ingredients first before starting, makes life a lot easier instead of having to go find certain things around the kitchen.

Ingredients
  • 2-3 Large Red Apples
  • 3 tbsp Unsalted Butter (melted)
  • Lemon Juice
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 3 tbsp Apricot Jam
  • 1-2 tbsp Sugar (Brown, White or Coconut)
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • Pinch of Nutmeg
  • 1 sheet Puff Pastry
Others-
Flour
Muffin Pan or Muffin Cases
Optional: Powder Sugar for decoration

Method
  1. Preheat oven to 180°C
  2. Core apples an slice them as thin as possible
  3. Place thin apple slices into a bowl with 1 tbsp melted butter, lemon juice and salt in a bowl and toss to coat evenly
  4. You can spread apples on baking sheet in a single layer and bake
    OR
Microwave the apples in a microwave safe bowl
    OR
Stew them in a pot for 10 mins till soften on low to medium heat
(I tend to use this method when I have a lot to make)
  5. Use 1 tbsp of butter to grease the muffin tins
    OR
you can use muffin cases. I find this easier for kids or parties.
  6. Mix sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg in a bowl, set aside
  7. On a lightly floured counter, roll pull pastry into 12 x 10 inches rectangle with short side parallel towards yourself.
  8. Cut pastry into 6 long strips
  9. Brush the puff pastry with apricot jam & sprinkle it with sugar cinnamon, nut meg mix.
  10. Working on a strip at a time, place 10-12 slices of apples (peel side OUT) over lapping each other, leaving a boarder of dough along the bottom. FOLD the bottom inch of dough onto the apples, leaving the top apple slices exposed. Using the rest of the butter, lightly brush the bottom pastry and toll the dough into a pinwheel from one end to another. Place directly into the muffin pan or muffin case.
  11. Bake for 40- 45 minutes until golden brow
If the top of the apples are starting to brown too quickly, just add a tin foil to cover the top, this will stop the apple petals from burning.
  12. Let cool and serve.

I've added some photos below, so you can see the process.

End result, you should get a lovey rose.
Like I said, its up to you how many you'd like to make.
I tend to add more apple slices so they look more like an English Rose.

Tweak to your own liking and taste.
Happy Baking!
